K & K Quilted Treasures quilts are made by Doris Pettway Hacketts, born into the legendary African American quilting tradition of rural Gee’s Bend, Alabama (now known as Boyin). Currently a resident of Jackson, Alabama, Hacketts was one of thirteen children who worked in cotton fields before leaving for college. She began quilting with her mother out of necessity, and found herself inspired by the colors and handmade process, which she describes as therapeutic. Each of her quilts represents her unique personality and experiences—no two are alike.
